Bakehouse Art Project: Rehearsal Studio Installations
Bakehouse Studios launched a bold new project where leading Australian visual artists have created art installations in eight small and medium rehearsal rooms exclusively for musicians. This is a world first project where the art inspires and connects musicians in a working studio, not in the regular confines of a gallery.
Artists such as Patricia Piccinini, Emily Floyd, Mick Turner, Peter Milne, The Hotham Street Ladies and others have completely transformed these rehearsal spaces to inspire the musicians that pass through Bakehouse each week.
The interior works are reflected in giant billboard sized Public Art paste ups that appear on the Hoddle Street wall, with up to one million motorists on Australia’s busiest road passing by every week.
In 2015 Helen Marcou and Quincy McLean were awarded the prestigious Sidney Myer Foundation Performing Arts Facilitator’s Prize for their contribution to the arts in Melbourne.
Box Set Collectors Editions of these artworks are now available to be purchased. Please email Helen Marcou for details helen@bakehousestudios.com.au
The Story of the Bakehouse Project has been chronicled in a beautiful full colour hard cover book out now through Black Ink Books. The book can be purchased at Bakehouse Studios, or through all good books shops including NGV and Mona Museum bookshops.
